General Liability Application

Aviation General Liability

Aviation General Liability (AGL) is very similar to Commercial General Liability (CGL) as it will provide coverage if a 3rd party is injured on your property or by your actions. AGL policies are necessary because most commercial general liability policies will not cover aviation-related exposures. AGL policies are typically sold to aviation businesses that operate on airport property and can include product liability coverage and completed operations if desired.

Another component of AGL policies that can be added is Hangarkeepers Limited Liability coverage (or HKLL). Similar to Garagekeepers in a CGL policy, Hangarkeepers is when you take Care, Custody, or Control of a 3rd-party aircraft. If your business involves working on aircraft, moving aircraft, or storing aircraft, this may be a coverage you need to consider.

Aircraft Hull & Liability

Aircraft Hull and Liability

Aircraft Hull insurance covers losses arising from the physical damage to the aircraft hull due to various perils (for example, prop strikes, Foreign Object Damage [FOD Loss], hard landings, collisions, etc).

Aircraft Liability insurance covers the aircraft owner/operator for 3rd Party property damage and bodily injury liability (for example, 3rd party passenger injury, aircraft collisions with non-owned hangar, mid-air collision with another aircraft, etc.)

Aviation Products Liability

Aviation Products Liability

Product Liability protects the manufacturer against 3rd party legal liability arising from damage or injury caused as a result of a failure of their product.

Another aspect of this coverage that can be added is Completed Operations coverage. If your aviation business is installing, repairing, or assembling aircraft parts or other aviation products, you’ll want to consider this coverage as it covers the liability you could incur after completing a project.

Aviation Equipment Floater (Inland Marine)/Property

Aviation Property, Marine & Auto

Similar to the difference between Aviation General Liability policies and Commercial General liability policies (see our GL page), Aviation Auto, Inland Marine and Property policies exist because standard commercial and personal auto, inland marine, and property policies do not cover any exposures that exist on airport premises.

If your business operates on an airport and you own the building or if you own the hangar where you store your aircraft, you’ll want to consider purchasing an aviation property policy to insure the structure itself.

Likewise, if you drive your vehicle inside the fence line of an airport or Aircraft Operating Area (AOA), you’ll want to consider purchasing an aviation auto policy as most standard auto policies exclude coverage while driving inside the AOA.

Finally, Inland Marine insurance covers equipment, tools and other movable property that you use at a job site, store in a warehouse or hangar, or transport over land. This can include tools, lawn mowers, UTVs, spare engines, engine lifts, etc.

Rotor-wing Liability insurance covers the rotor-wing owner/operator for 3rd Party property damage and bodily injury liability (for example, 3rd party passenger injury,rotor-wing collisions with non-owned hangar, mid-air collision with another rotor-wing, etc.)

Airshow & Special Events

Whether you are the airport authority or the organizer of the event, a separate policy will likely be necessary as most Airport Liability or Aviation General Liability policies specifically exclude coverage for Airshows, Air Meets, or other special events.

Special Event policies are intended to provide coverage for bodily injury and property damage caused by the Named Insured. At an Airshow, this primarily covers slips, trips, and falls incidents on the event premises.

To ensure that your policy is not “first dollar” for exposures created by others, it is important to make sure that vendors, participants, and suppliers carry their own liability insurance policy and endorse the air show as an additional insured.

Storage Tank & Site Pollution Liability

Aviation Pollution

A Storage Tank policy provides coverage for cleanup costs, transportation and waste disposal, and corrective actions to meet state/federal regulations at a tank owner’s facility due to release/seepage/discharge from scheduled tanks on the policy. Coverage is also provided for 3rd party bodily injury and property damage claims emanating from schedule tanks on the policy.

Airport Liability

Airport Insurance Coverages

Airport liability is a type of insurance coverage designed to protect airports from financial losses arising from liabilities associated with their operations. Airports are fast-moving, complex facilities and managing one can be a complex challenge with numerous risks, including aircraft accidents, property damage, bodily injury to passengers or employees, and third-party liabilities such as damage to neighboring properties.

Airport liability insurance can help protect against the financial risks associated with their operations and ensure they can meet their obligations in the event of accidents or incidents. The coverage limits and specific terms of the insurance policy can vary depending on the size of the airport, and its operations.

Airport Liability policies often include various coverages directly applicable to airport operations, including:

  • General Liability Insurance
  • Premises Insurance
  • Products Insurance
  • Hangarkeepers Insurance
  • Mobile Equipment Insurance
  • War & Allied Perils Insurance
